I was disturbed by the “thumbs up” you gave Wegmans for captioning their TV commercials. Closed captioning has been around for almost 35 years. No company should be applauded for doing something that should have become standard practice, oh, some 35 years ago.
When companies don’t caption their ads, it is disrespectful, rude, hurtful and ignorant. It also discriminates against the deaf.
The worst is when public service announcements, which are supposed to benefit people, go uncaptioned.
The FCC should have ruled long ago that all commercials must be captioned. It is unfair and unacceptable that millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing people are still left out of the conversation this way.
