Automated stage captioning successfully trialled at National Theatre

Technology that automatically generates live captions from words spoken on stage is one step closer to reality after a trial at the National Theatre “proved it will work”.

The CaptionCue system – which is being developed by Stagetext – was tested over a two-day period in the NT’s Temporary Theatre, during which actors Samuel Barnett, Rosalie Craig and Richard Henders performed extracts from plays and musicals for an audience of deaf and hard of hearing volunteers.
